Philadelphia-based composer, pianist and arranger, Edward Kalendar (Eduard Kalandarov) is equally at home with classical, jazz and folk idioms. He can discuss the subtle characteristics of a piece of Armenian folk music or a work by Lutoslavski, and then entertain you at the piano with standards by Bill Evans, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, or one of his own jazz or classical pieces.
Mr. Kalendar enjoys experimenting and melding jazz and classical forms with the ethnic music from many regions of the world. Few musicians can match Mr. Kalendar’s unique ability to hybridize dramatically different musical genres with such a depth of knowledge and eloquent versatility.
Mr. Kalendar’s compositions include: twenty-six film scores; concertos for cello and piano; a violin sonata; a symphonic poem for orchestra; a string quartet; dramatic music for classical theater; children’s and professional choral pieces; and over two hundred classical, popular, and children’s songs. Mr. Kalendar’s original music and arrangements are distributed worldwide by Melodia Records and Hal Leonard Corporation.
